festive friday

Lots of holiday festivity around town.  Even in the library it's the same.  (For those of you who watch Miracle on 34th Street every year at this time-as we do--, you may recognize that line from the sweet janitor Alfred, who rails against "commercialism"  (hear it with a NY accent) and says "even in Brooklyn it's the same.  Make a buck, Make a buck."  This creeps into my family's conversation all year "even in Contoocook it's the same" about any number of things.

We have  a display of Leigh Maynard's Nutcrackers with my family's little antique houses from Czechoslovakia, arranged artfully by Barb.

AND a show of Barb's own whimsical and charming holiday drawings and watercolors.  She will be putting together a price list, so they will be for sale next week.  They feature mice and forest creatures cavorting and enjoying winter activities.  Her work was on display at the House of Art this time last year and we are thrilled to be able to exhibit her work right here where she does her other job.  My photo doesn't do it justice.  You should come see for yourselves!  We'll be open on Saturday from 10 to 1pm.  If you haven't heard, we are now limiting capacity to five visitors per half hour, given the increasing numbers in Hopkinton and across the state, as well as all of the people who may have traveled or been part of big group gatherings.
