A friend just sent me this wonderful image from out in front of NY Public Library. Ever cautious lions, Patience and Fortitude. Well named. Just what we need these days!
Further on my posting about Sebastian Barry's "A thousand Moons." I meant to mention that while reading the book, I was plagued by the thought that the book was too close to an earlier book read that I couldn't place. After all, how many books could include a Civil War era cross dresser? How could this be, you ask? Well, it's because I had read Barry's first book with these characters "Days Without End." but that was back in 2017. Lifetimes ago. (BLS i.e. before lightning strike) Now it comes flooding back and I remember that I also really liked that book. In my family, we regularly discuss the fact that while I read far more books than my husband, he actually remembers plots, characters and details...ah me.
I just finished "Snow" by John Banville, a 50s era mystery taking place in Ireland. Brutal murder of a priest and family secrets. A good enough read, though perhaps a bit less than wonderful. Now I'm back in the Civil War with Paulette Jiles' "Simon the Fiddler." So far, so good.
