Staff book reviews - Laura Wednesday 4/22

Today's reviews are from Laura Mackenzie.  You can find Laura at the Welcome Desk when the library reopens!

THE COMPLETE COOKING FOR TWO COOKBOOK  America’s Test Kitchen

Now that I am cooking just for two, being able to access recipes for almost anything in a scaled down version has been great. In true ATK fashion, this book provides the reasoning behind the method.  Before you read a single recipe, a section as to what tools every kitchen needs is followed by handy recipe specific equipment and how best to use the dreaded left over ingredient.  Each recipe is introduced with a “Why this recipe works” and helpful hints are scattered throughout the book.  Isn't it comforting to know that one can really make lasagna or cheesecake for two?

ANNE OF GREEN GABLES. Lucy Maude Montgomery

Anne Shirley is sent to a farm on Prince Edward Island, where the unsuspecting siblings, the Cuthberts are expecting a boy to help out. Instead they receive a redheaded 11 year old ready to turn their lives upside down.  Set in the late 1800s, Anne of Green Gables gives readers a wonderful opportunity to imagine what life was once like and to remind them that a strong-willed heroine is timeless.

I thought I'd also include my current favorite book to movie adaptation:  A Man Called Ove written by Frederik Backman and made into a film in 2015.
