Staff book reviews - Leigh Tuesday 4/21

Today's reviews come from Leigh Maynard, our amazing Childrens/Youth Services Librarian!
Endurance by Albert Lansing (919.89 LAN)
Imagine being stuck on an ice floe and having to eat seals, etc. in order to live. It puts the Stay At Home order in perspective! This true story about Ernest Shackleton and his crew falls into our “non-fiction that reads like fiction” category. I don’t usually read non-fiction, but I’ve had this book on my shelf since it was a Hopkinton Reads a few years back. I had run out of books to read, so I picked it up and I’m so glad I did. The story is amazing and reminds me of the book “Unbroken,” another great read. You can find it on the Libby app and through Hoopla.

Echo North
by Joanna Ruth Meyer (Y MEY)

You may recognize similarities between this story and some well known fairy tales. In this book you’ll find a strong female character, a wolf, a house that unravels, and a magical library. It’s a great read for a wide audience, including teens, preteens, and adults who enjoy reading YA (and there are a lot of you!). You can find it on the Libby app.

The Light in Hidden Places
by Sharon Cameron (Y CAM)

I’m always amazed to read about the bravery of people risking their lives to help others. This is the true story of sisters who hid 13 Jews in Poland during WWII. Even though you’ll know the outcome (after peeking at the pictures and reading the Author’s Note), the story is compelling. You can find it through Hoopla.
