I attended the Fall meeting of the NH Library Association today.  There was a presentation by the director of ALA's Office for Diversity, Literacy and Outreach Services, Jody Gray.  Much food for thought, but some quick takeaways:

Libraries continue to be among the most trusted institutions in the US.  There is ample opportunity, therefore, for us to be be centers of community engagement and promote the principles of a more civil society.  I was struck in particular by one of Jody's slides:  "Look to Wonder" rather than defending your biases and digging in your heels.  Libraries have the potential to be "great equalizers."

And on the building front, the trustees will be meeting next Monday evening after the presentation of our proposed 2019 budget to the Select Board.  Stay tuned.
