Best wishes to all for finding all that is lovely about the holidays. I still have much wrapping and baking to do (despite a commitment to making things simpler this year...) but I am determined to spend ample time curled up in front of the Christmas tree like a sleepy cat (with any luck to be joined by Mouse). I am looking forward to a Christmas Eve celebration with my brother, though this time via zoom, with champagne tippled in Contoocook and Chicago. Then a leisurely roast lamb for Christmas dinner, with just my immediate family rather than a throng. This reminds me of a story my mother told me about a conversation she had with her mom about roast lamb. Perhaps apocryphal but still a good one. Apparently my mother always cut the thin end of the roast off, because that's what her mother did. She finally asked why, i.e. for what culinary reason, did my grandmother remove this end, to which my grandmother replied, "For no other reason than the fact my pan was too short." I leave you with that bit of silliness. Peace and good will to all.
