the eagle has landed

Today we were treated to some wonderful aerial wizardry as the old roof was removed from the cupola and the new roof was settled into place.  This feels like major progress. With a weather tight building the contractor is freed to tackle  electrical work and painting and internal modifications.  And yes, before anyone has a chance to ask, the weather vane is going back up.  As it turns out, it was not struck.  The lower part of the roof is what took the hit.  Again a reminder that lightning rods are no guarantee against being struck and there is no building code that requires them.

What a beautiful day for a roof raising!
