More Demo. A sight to see. A stinky mess. But Progress! I'll be giving a tour to another prospective contractor next week and then we will be accepting bids. Servpro and our insurance company Primex continue to be good partners in this effort. Needless to say, the library staff is really stepping up. We are all very busy working at restoring as much of our service as possible.
Many of you are visiting other libraries and overall it appears that people are having good experiences. If you observe a practice in place at one of our neighboring libraries that you particularly like, please let us know. This is the time to make adjustments if we can. For example, we were told that Concord Public offers email receipts rather than paper receipts as we do when we check books out. We are going to talk to our online catalog company to see if we can do that. We want to hear from you!
We've had many more offers of help, including from the Rodgers Memorial Library in Hudson, which would like to extend borrowing privileges to our patrons. So, if you are in their part of the state, you should visit.
The Hopkinton Public Library in Hopkinton, MA, with which we are often confused, also reached out to offer support. They have recently undertaken renovations, so some of our staff will go for a site visit there to see what we can learn.
Many people have offered to donate books from their personal collections, for which we are very appreciative. However, we need to stress that we are not looking for book donations at this time. We are up to our necks in our own collection here in our satellite library on the lower level of Slusser. Come visit and check something out! We continue to be optimistic that the bulk of our collection will be restored to good health.
