Celebrating February

In these cold days, it's essential to find things to celebrate.  This weekend we indulged in all manner of tasty things from our very own cheese purveyor "Gilded Fern Farm" on Dustin Road.  If you haven't ventured there, you should!

and more excellent x country skiing.  Today's rain isn't going to help, but this past weekend it was gorgeous.

Karen and I were looking for something in the Local History Room recently and came across our collection of Town Reports.  I spent some time looking at the one from 1919, noting that it contained a list of all the books added to the library collection during that year.  It included Booth Tarkington's "The Magnificent Andersons" (as printed in the report, it is actually "The Magnificent Ambersons" which won the Pulitzer prize in 1918).  It also included a long list of library expenses from the year including several charges of .05 cents for mucilage. Also noted fines collected totaling $2.92 and a .50 cent gift from Miss Molineaux.  Those were different times....
