History

Somehow yesterday's post didn't get posted, so here's another quick one. Two for the price of one.  A real bargain.   I am doing an orientation zoom for new trustees this evening.  One of the things we'll be covering is some history of libraries in Hopkinton/Contoocook, as is fitting.  I was looking around for information and came across a variety of fun facts, many of which I knew, but bear sharing.  Did you know that there was a Hopkinton Village Library, established in 1871.  Among the places it called home were upstairs at the Cracker Barrel and what was the Antiquarian Society, now the Hopkinton Historical Society.  Before Bates was opened in 1959, the Contoocook Library also wandered town a bit, including in the building where Indigo Blues now is, and the train depot!!  I also came across an image from the Contoocook quilt, made by our very own Sarah Sally Coen, longtime library volunteer and book repairer and great historical resource.
