Snow day

I know that snow days are a bit of a non event for those of you who work at home, but for those of us who still venture out, it was more than delightful to wake up to what turned out to be the mother of all storms.  How beautiful it was to be cozily inside, forced to bake (!) and get to some projects.  Pecan tassies, spritz cookies, granola and a caramelized onion galette with gruyere in the crust.

I've been looking over recent NYT Book Reviews, which include "best books" of the year.  How is it that I've read so few of them?  Makes me wonder what  my best reads of the year were.  Karen suggested that we feature some staff pics for the end of the year, so stay tuned for that.  A quick look back suggests that my list would include

Mirror and the Light, Hamnet, Jack, Transcendent Kingdom, Utopia Avenue, Piranesi, and Shakespeare for Squirrels (an odd, bawdy little bit of escape)...I'm sure I'm missing some...A new year's resolution should be to start using Good Reads.

I came upon an interview with Jerry Seinfeld (just came out with a new book that is in our collection) in the most recent NYTBR that made me laugh out loud.  He indicated that he was currently reading "Four of the Three Musketeers" about the Marx Brothers.  I thought it was a joke, but indeed, there is a definitive book of that title from 2016 on the subject of Groucho and Co.  To the question:  "How do you organize your books?"  He answers "I use a bookshelf.  If you stack them up, as opposed to putting them on end, you're not going to read them.  Any book that's on its side, you're never going to read it.  If it's up, and you can just put your fingers on the top and slide it out, you  might read that one."  Words to live by for a librarian.

Meanwhile, this Covid business is making Mouse a bit stir crazy as well....Good weekend to all.  Fill it with all the best things of the season!!
