old and new traditions

This year we decided to put some of my father in law's Lionel trains under our tree.  It was a very festive old/new tradition, complete with a tunnel backdrop painted by my daughter.  Also note the risotto that I got in my stocking that is loaded on the truck!!  Simple pleasures are exquisite.

Another holiday tradition for 25 years or more are the holiday cards that Juliana makes for us.  This year was a prize winner, though I'm pretty sure we say that every year.  Each card had a painted bird mounted to appear to be flying in front of an Italian building or cityscape based on a Giotto painting.  Here's one of them that called out when the sunlight hit it perfectly for a shadow.
I wish you all the very best of the new year.  May it bring us respite from the storm that we have endured in 2020.
