Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Title IX Thursday June 14 at 7pm

Historian Susan Ware will discuss her research on the development of Title IX, which permitted "equal" access to sports programs for girls. Over the last 40 years, access and participation opportunities for women and girls in sports have expanded dramatically and Title IX played a fundamental role in that transformation. The events leading up to Title IX's passage in 1972, and the struggle ever since to figure out how to implement the law fairly, confirm the difficulties -- and the rewards -- of putting abstract principles like equal opportunity and gender equity into concrete, everyday practice.  Happy Anniversary Cake to be served!!
